8.0 of 10 bananas. Toys for Bob rebuilt all three PlayStation Spyro games with new art, voices, and music. Colorful, faithful, and full of gems, but the old level design and camera show their age.

By the Alpha. PS4 disc listing. Updated Oct 27 2026.

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, update history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on Steam (Toys for Bob and Activision, PS4 and Xbox One release November 13 2018). The Amazon button is the US PS4 disc, which also plays on a PS5 with a disc drive. Read the box: it says it includes a content download, and at launch the disc carried the first game while the other two downloaded. At my Oct 27 2026 check it was sold by a third-party seller named Ardent Wholesale and shipped by Amazon. Amazon also flagged low stock on one of its offer views.

Sit with me a moment. Before open worlds had a name, a small purple dragon flew across bright meadows collecting gems while a dragonfly named Sparx buzzed behind him. The troop played it on a grey PlayStation with a memory card we guarded like treasure. This trilogy brings all of it back.

What It Wants To Be

Spyro Reignited Trilogy remakes Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. You charge and breathe fire, glide between ledges, rescue dragons, and collect gems across hub worlds full of portals. Toys for Bob rebuilt every level with new art and animation, new voice acting, and a remixed score you can swap for the original Stewart Copeland soundtrack.

What Works

Critics landed around 80 on Metacritic. The art is the headline: every world looks like a cartoon you can step into, and every dragon has its own design and personality. The remake stays faithful to the original level layouts, so the old secrets are where you remember them. The second and third games add more variety, mini games, and side characters, and the whole package is long for the price.

What Breaks

Listen well. These are late 1990s designs. The camera can fight you in tight spaces, some levels feel repetitive, and the first game is thin next to its sequels. Flying levels and a few mini games can frustrate. And the box warns you about a content download, so plan on the internet for the full trilogy.

Who Should Play

Play it if you grew up with Spyro, if you finished the Crash N. Sane Trilogy and want a gentler companion, or if you have a young player ready for a 3D adventure that rarely punishes them. Skip it if old-school camera and collect-a-thon design wear you out.

STRENGTHS

  • Gorgeous rebuilt art
  • Three full games in one box
  • Faithful to the originals
  • Gentle for young players

HONEST COSTS

  • Old camera and level design
  • First game is the thinnest
  • Box needs a content download
  • Third-party seller at my check
