CRASH BANDICOOT N. SANE TRILOGY: THREE CLASSICS, ONE BRUISED THUMB

8.0 of 10 bananas. The first three Crash games rebuilt from the ground up, with gorgeous art and the old personality intact. A joy for fans, but the first game is brutal, and the new jump feel makes some old leaps harder.

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, update history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.
Platforms: PS4 first (Vicarious Visions and Activision, released June 30 2017), then Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC in 2018. The Amazon button is the US PS4 disc, which also runs on a PS5 with a disc drive through backward compatibility. At my Oct 26 check it was 29.96 dollars from a third-party seller (MAGIC GAMES), shipped by Amazon, with only one left at that moment. Check the seller before you pay.
Get Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy for PS4 on AmazonSit with me a moment. Before the troop had headsets, we had one orange marsupial, a spin attack, and a stack of crates. Some of us still flinch at the sound of a TNT countdown.
What It Wants To Be
This trilogy remakes Crash Bandicoot, Cortex Strikes Back, and Warped, the original PlayStation games, with new art, sound, and cutscenes. You run into and across the screen, spin enemies, jump on crates, and chase gems and relics for full completion. The first game also gains the save and checkpoint comforts of the later two.
What Works
Critics gave it an 80 on Metacritic for PS4, and players bought it in huge numbers, past ten million copies by early 2019. The art is lovely, the music is remixed with care, and Warped in particular still plays brilliantly. It is a lot of game for the price, and the completion hunt will keep perfectionists busy for weeks.
What Breaks
Listen well. The first Crash was hard in 1996 and it is hard now, with bridges and ledges that eat lives. Many players report that the remake's jumps and edges feel slightly different, so leaps you remember can fail. Some levels lean on trial and error more than skill. Younger players may need patience, or a grown-up to take the controller for a moment.
Who Should Play
Play it if you grew up with Crash, if you love classic platformers, or if you want to show the kids where it all began. Skip it if hard, old-school level design makes you throw controllers.
