CRASH TEAM RACING NITRO-FUELED: THE KART RACER THAT BITES BACK

8.5 of 10 bananas. A loving remake of the 1999 classic with a deeper drift and boost system than any kart racer on the shelf. Huge track list, real skill ceiling, but slow early unlocks and a post-launch coin shop that leaned on grinding.

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, update history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.
Platforms: PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One (Beenox and Activision, released June 21 2019). The Amazon button is the US PS4 disc, which also runs on a PS5 with a disc drive through backward compatibility. At my Oct 21 check the new offer came from a third-party seller, shipped by Amazon, at 29.75 dollars. Check the seller before you pay.
Get Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled for PS4 on AmazonSit with me a moment. Long before the troop had headsets, we had one PlayStation, four controllers, and Crash Team Racing on a Friday night. Somebody always cried. Usually it was the one who never learned to power slide. Twenty years later, Beenox rebuilt that game, and the crying is back.
What It Wants To Be
Nitro-Fueled is a remake of the original Crash Team Racing, rebuilt with new visuals and audio. It keeps the Adventure mode, Arcade, Time Trial, and Battle modes, adds the tracks from Crash Nitro Kart, and brings online racing and deep kart customization. Free Grand Prix seasons after launch added new tracks, characters, and karts.
What Works
The drift and boost system is the star. Chaining power slides into triple boosts takes real timing, and once it clicks you feel like a pro on every corner. That gives it a higher skill ceiling than Mario Kart, which makes races between practiced players fierce. The track list is huge, the remake looks and sounds great, and critics were generally favorable. It won Best Sports and Racing Game at The Game Awards 2019, and Wikipedia reports more than 10 million copies sold by June 2025.
What Breaks
Listen well. Unlocking characters and karts takes a long grind, and after launch Activision added a Wumpa Coin shop with real money purchases that made the grind feel planned. New players will get destroyed online by boost veterans. Loading times are long on older hardware. And the disc is now a third-party seller item, so prices move.
Who Should Play
Play it if you want a kart racer with a real skill curve, or if you grew up on the original. Skip it if you want relaxed party racing where everyone wins a little.
