MARVEL'S WOLVERINE: GREAT CLAWS, NARROW CAGE

7.5 of 10 bananas. Logan is perfect. The fights around him get old before the credits.
By the Alpha. Post-launch verdict. PS5. Launched Sep 15 2026. Updated Oct 10 2026.
Honest note: This replaces my earlier preview and its 9 of 10 expected score. It is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, patch notes, and what is known about the shipped game. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.
Platforms: PS5 only. The PS5 standard edition disc is the Amazon button. There is no PC or PS4 version at launch. A Digital Deluxe Edition is sold on the PlayStation Store. At my check the disc was in stock on Amazon, but check the seller and price before you pay.
Get Marvel's Wolverine for PS5 on AmazonSit with me a moment. Back in September I gave this game 9 bananas expected and told you to trust Insomniac. The claws are out now, the critics have spoken, and I owe the troop a straight answer. Here it is: Logan is everything you hoped for. The game built around him is not quite.
What It Wants To Be
Insomniac's single-player action game, out on PS5 since September 15, 2026. Liam McIntyre plays Logan, with Jean Grey lending a hand through telekinesis. The story travels across Canada, Japan, and Madripoor, built around claws, rage, parries, and healing that keeps fights ugly. It is more linear than the Spider-Man games. The cities are restricted spaces, not open worlds.
What Works
The character work. Critics across the board praise McIntyre's Logan as a definitive take, gruff and wounded and funny in the right places. Combat is brutal and slick in the early hours, with claw combos, rage specials, and violence the Spider-Man games could never show. Presentation is top tier, and the globe trotting keeps the scenery fresh. Most reviews put the campaign at roughly 15 to 21 hours, so it does not overstay.
What Breaks
Listen well. The most common complaint is repetition. Encounters lean on the same enemy types and the same rhythm, and big outlets like IGN, at 6 of 10, and Eurogamer, at 3 of 5, said the combat wears thin well before the end. Chase scenes and quick-time events feel scripted and old fashioned. Player agency is limited, and the levels push you down narrow paths. At launch it sat around 77 on Metacritic and 78 on OpenCritic, the lowest score yet for an Insomniac Marvel game.
Who Should Play
Play if you love Wolverine, want a bloody, focused story, and do not mind a linear action game. Wait for a sale if you wanted Spider-Man depth with claws. Then read my Marvel's Spider-Man 2 verdict for Insomniac at its best.
