Sit with me a moment. Snow was falling over Harlem, Christmas music was playing in a bodega, and I went invisible, dropped behind a Roxxon guard, and charged a Venom punch that sent three of them flying. Then a neighbor on the street thanked Miles by name. Small moment. Big feeling. This game is full of them.

What It Wants To Be

Insomniac Games' standalone follow-up to Marvel's Spider-Man, released on PS5 and PS4 in November 2020 and on PC in November 2022. Peter Parker leaves town for a few weeks, and Miles Morales has to protect New York in winter. He faces the Roxxon energy company and a group of tech rebels called the Underground, while learning what kind of hero he is going to be.

What Works

Swinging through New York is still among the best traversal in games. Miles has his own style. His Venom powers let you zap, slam, and launch enemies, and camouflage makes stealth fast and fun. Harlem in winter is warm and full of life, with a community that cares about him. The story is personal and well acted, with real heart around his mom and his uncle. On PS5 it loads in seconds and looks great.

What Breaks

Listen well. It is short. You can finish the story in about eight to ten hours, more with side content. Some side activities repeat the same few tasks. A few systems and bases are carried over from the first game with little change. The villains are fine but not memorable. If you already played the first game, some of the structure will feel very familiar.

Who Should Play

Play if you love Spider-Man, want a shorter open world, or need a game you can actually finish. Skip if you want a long epic for full price. Play the first game first if you can, then read my Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered verdict.
