What It Wants To Be

Insomniac Games built Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for PlayStation 5, released June 11, 2021, later on PC. Ratchet and Clank chase Emperor Nefarious across dimensions with an arsenal of silly weapons, platforming, and dimensional rifts that load almost instantly on SSD hardware.

What Works

Rifts are not a gimmick. They rewrite encounters and traversal in real time. Weapons stay loud and inventive. Rivet is a strong new lead who shares the spotlight without stealing the franchise's warmth. Visuals and Tempest audio make planets pop. Accessibility and difficulty options welcome more of the troop. It is pure joy when a pocket dimension opens under your feet.

What Breaks

Listen well. The campaign is short for full price nostalgia. Collectibles pad the map more than they deepen the story. Some humor lands soft. On PC you need a strong machine to match the PS5 magic the game was designed around. Replay value sits mostly in challenge modes and shiny hunting.

Who Should Play
