Sit with me a moment. I have seen strong silverbacks lose a star to a Chance Time and never speak to their brother again. Mario Party Superstars brings those old wounds back in HD.

What It Wants To Be

Superstars is a greatest hits Mario Party. It remakes five boards from the Nintendo 64 games, like Peach's Birthday Cake and Yoshi's Tropical Island, and brings back 100 minigames from across the series. It has full online play, a rare thing for Mario Party at the time.

What Works

It is the cleanest Mario Party in years. Metacritic shows an 80. The classic boards are well balanced, the minigame picks lean toward the best of the series, and you can play every mode online with friends. Button controls replace most of the motion gimmicks, which keeps things fair.

What Breaks

Listen well. Five boards is not many, and Nintendo never added more. The single player side is thin. Super Mario Party Jamboree, released in 2024, has more boards and more modes, so this one makes most sense if you love the classic boards or find it cheaper.

Who Should Play

Play it if you want classic Mario Party nights with friends or online. Pick Jamboree instead if you want the most content.
