8.0 of 10 bananas. Nintendo's October 2026 Switch 2 motion sports collection: 12 sports on an open Wuhu Island, with flying, power cruising, and skateboarding to explore it. The best party game in the series; a few sports feel carried over, and the solo missions get thin.

By the Alpha. Switch 2 game listing. Updated Nov 3 2026.

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, update history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.

Platforms: Nintendo Switch 2 only (developed and published by Nintendo, released October 22 2026). The Amazon button is the US Switch 2 game, which was in stock at my Nov 3 2026 check at 59.88 dollars, sold and shipped by Amazon.com. Sellers and prices change, so look at the seller before you pay.

Sit with me a moment. In 2009 I watched a whole family argue over who got the next turn at table tennis on Wuhu Island. Seventeen years later the island is back, and the arguments are louder.

What It Wants To Be

This is the follow up to 2022's Nintendo Switch Sports, built around the Joy-Con 2 controllers. You get 12 sports, including returning favorites like tennis, bowling, and table tennis, plus newcomers like thumb wrestling and archery. The big change is an open version of Wuhu Island, which you explore by prop plane, power cruiser, and skateboard, with landmark hunts and a single player ladder called Island Crown.

What Works

It plays great with friends on the couch. Critics agreed: Metacritic shows a 79 from 78 critic reviews with no negative ones, and OpenCritic shows an 80, a big jump over the 72 the last game got. GameSpot gave it a 9 and called it a greatest hits of the series, and Nintendo Life gave it a 9 too. Reviewers keep praising table tennis and thumb wrestling, and the open island gives you a reason to keep playing after the party leaves.

What Breaks

Listen well. Some sports, like volleyball and basketball, feel lifted from the last game, and IGN gave it a 7 for a safe sport list. Game Informer said Island Crown shows the limits of the shallow sports. Some players miss old Wii Sports Resort modes like Swordplay survival and the cycling race, and say the 50 plus flyover missions are mostly filler. There is no Switch 1 version.

Who Should Play

Play it if you have a Switch 2 and friends or family who come over. Wait for a sale if you play alone or already wore out Nintendo Switch Sports.
