Sit with me a moment. Young gorillas rush the target. Old gorillas watch the target for twenty minutes, learn when he takes his coffee, and swap the sugar. Hitman is the game that rewards the old gorilla. My first clean Silent Assassin run in Sapienza felt like solving a mystery I wrote myself.

What It Wants To Be

IO Interactive folded HITMAN (2016), HITMAN 2, and HITMAN 3 into one package in 2023. You play Agent 47 across more than twenty sandbox levels, from Paris fashion shows to Dartmoor mansions, finding your own way to each target through disguises, routes, and accidents. It also added Freelancer, a roguelike mode where you build a safehouse and hunt crime syndicates.

What Works

The levels are the stars. Each map is dense with people, routines, and secret paths, and Mission Stories guide newcomers into the clockwork. Replay value is enormous, with challenges, mastery unlocks, and escalations. The comedy is dry and perfect: 47 in a flamingo suit is still 47. Freelancer gives veterans a fresh reason to return. Dubai, Dartmoor, and Miami are among the best levels in the genre.

What Breaks

Listen well. Much of the progression and the Elusive Target events need an online connection, and server outages have locked players out of unlocks before. Upgrading old copies through the years confused many owners. The story is thin glue between levels. And the AI can be gamed, which is half the fun, but breaks the tension for some.

Who Should Play

Play if you love stealth, puzzles, or sandboxes where you write the plan. Patient players get the most out of it. Skip if you want a story-first game or have unreliable internet.
