FIRE EMBLEM: THREE HOUSES: PICK A HOUSE, TEACH THE KIDS, THEN WATCH THEM GO TO WAR

9.0 of 10 bananas. Intelligent Systems and Koei Tecmo's 2019 tactics RPG: you teach one of three student houses at a monastery, then lead them through a war that splits them apart. The characters and the choice are unforgettable; the monastery chores repeat, and the routes reuse a lot of maps.

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, update history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.

Sit with me a moment. A good teacher knows the young ones will one day choose their own path. Three Houses makes you that teacher, then makes you live with the paths they choose. Few games have made me care this much about a class roster.
What It Wants To Be
Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a turn-based tactics RPG with a school life layer. You play Byleth, a mercenary who becomes a professor at Garreg Mach Monastery and teaches one of three houses: the Black Eagles, the Blue Lions, or the Golden Deer. Between battles you teach, eat meals, fish, and build bonds. Later the story jumps forward five years into a war, and the house you picked decides your side and your route.
What Works
The cast is the heart. Each student has a full set of support conversations, and the three house leaders, Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude, give each route its own view of the same war. Critics loved it: Metacritic shows an 89, and it became one of the best selling Fire Emblem games. The battle maps reward planning, and the class system lets you shape each student your way.
What Breaks
Listen well. The monastery walks and chores repeat every month, and many players start skipping them by the second route. To see the whole story you replay a long first half several times, and the routes reuse many maps. The visuals looked dated even in 2019, and the default difficulty is easy for veterans, so turn it up.
Who Should Play
Play it if you love tactics games, character drama, or games that reward a second and third run. Skip it if you hate repetition or want pure battles with no social layer.
