PERSONA 5 ROYAL: PUT ON THE MASK, STEAL THE YEAR

9.5 of 10 bananas. The definitive Phantom Thieves saga. Style, calendar management, and a soundtrack that owns the night. Still a top banana JRPG.

Get Persona 5 Royal for PS5 on AmazonSit with me a moment. I opened the Thieves Den, put on Joker's mask in my head, and lost a week to confidants and palaces. Royal is not a side grade. It is the full heist, polished until the UI itself feels like a jazz chart.
What It Wants To Be
Atlus and Sega released Persona 5 Royal as the definitive edition of Persona 5, with the PS5 Standard Edition landing October 21, 2022. You live a year in Tokyo as a Phantom Thief: school days, confidants, and turn-based palace infiltrations. Royal adds story, characters, quality of life, and a third semester.
What Works
Style is a system. Menus, music, and transitions sell rebellion better than most cutscenes. Turn-based combat rewards baton passes and weak-point hunting. Confidants give mechanical bonuses and human stakes. Royal's extras fix pacing complaints from the original and deepen the ending path. A hundred hours sounds long until the calendar clicks and you realize you planned every evening on purpose.
What Breaks
Listen well. The early hours teach slowly. Mementos grinding can dull the blade if you rush ranks. Calendar pressure punishes indecision. If you already cleared Royal on another platform, the PS5 disc is convenience and visuals, not a new story. Mature themes sit under the stylish coat. Read the rating.
Who Should Play
Play if you want a stylish JRPG that respects your calendar, or if you bounced off older Personas and need the best on-ramp. Skip if you need action combat only. For another Atlus-adjacent climb, read Metaphor: ReFantazio or Persona 3 Reload.
