TRIANGLE STRATEGY: A WAR OF WORDS BEFORE A WAR OF SWORDS

8.0 of 10 bananas. Square Enix's HD-2D tactics RPG, where every big choice goes to a vote among your allies. Deep grid battles and a heavy political story, slowed by long cutscenes before the swords come out.

Sit with me a moment. Old apes know that the hardest battles are the arguments before the battle. Triangle Strategy is built on that. Before the big fights, your allies vote on what the troop should do, and you have to talk them into it or live with their choice.
What It Wants To Be
Triangle Strategy is a turn based tactical RPG in Square Enix's HD-2D style. You play Serenoa, heir of a noble house, caught between three nations fighting over salt and iron. Battles happen on grids where height, positioning, and the elements matter. The big story decisions go to the Scales of Conviction, where your companions vote, and your choices push the story toward different routes and endings.
What Works
Critics placed it in the low to mid 80s on Metacritic. The battles are clever, with each unit playing a clear role and terrain that really matters. The voting system makes choices feel weighty, the HD-2D art is lovely, and multiple routes and New Game Plus reward a second run.
What Breaks
Listen well. The story is told in long, wordy cutscenes, and the first hours move slowly before the fighting picks up. Some characters are thin, and the English voice acting is uneven. Grinding is limited, so some later maps can spike hard. And the price on this cartridge is close to full.
Who Should Play
Play it if you love Final Fantasy Tactics or Fire Emblem and enjoy political stories. Skip it if you want action or hate long dialogue between fights.
