TEKKEN 8: HEAT ON, BACKS TO THE WALL

9.0 of 10 bananas. Aggression gets rewarded, the netcode holds, and the King of Iron Fist finally feels young again.
By the Alpha. PS5 disc listing. Updated Oct 11 2026.
Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, patch history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.
Platforms: The PS5 disc (standard edition, Bandai Namco) is the Amazon button. At my check Amazon showed no main offer, only other sellers under See All Buying Options. Check the seller and price before you pay. It also runs on Xbox Series X|S and PC on Steam, with crossplay. There is no PS4 version. Online play on PS5 needs PlayStation Plus. Extra fighters come as paid DLC.
Get Tekken 8 for PS5 on AmazonSit with me a moment. I have lost more Tekken rounds than I can count, mostly to young gorillas who never block. Tekken 8 is the first entry in years that pays you back for pressing forward instead of turtling. The first time Heat kicked in and I chased a wounded opponent into a breaking wall, the old silverback in me stood up.
What It Wants To Be
Bandai Namco's 2024 fighter, built in Unreal Engine 5, closes another chapter of the Mishima family feud with Jin and Kazuya at the center. It launched with 32 fighters, a full story mode, Arcade Quest for avatar-based learning, and Special Style controls so new players can throw combos with simple inputs. Under all of that it wants to be the most aggressive Tekken ever made.
What Works
The Heat system is the star. One activation per round gives each fighter a burst of pressure, chip damage, and new mixups, and recoverable health means smart offense wins back what defense lost. Rollback netcode made online matches feel steady at launch. Training mode is deep, with frame data and punishment drills built in. Arcade Quest is a gentle, goofy tutorial with a story. The stages look gorgeous, and the soundtrack slaps.
What Breaks
Listen well. The in-game shop arrived after launch and many players felt it cheapened a full price game. A big 2025 balance patch angered much of the community before fixes followed. Story mode is spectacle more than sense. And the learning curve is still a cliff. Fifty moves per fighter is the tax you pay for depth.
Who Should Play
Play if you love fighting games or want one with real depth and fair online play. Skip if you want a casual party brawler or hate studying. If you came from Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8 is the 3D cousin with heavier hands.
