By the third round I landed a full combo, the crowd noise went up, and something old in my chest woke up. Street Fighter 6 is the first fighting game in years that wants beginners to have fun from minute one.
What It Wants To Be
Capcom's 2023 fighter, built in the RE Engine with a bold graffiti look. Three pillars: Fighting Ground for classic versus and training, Battle Hub for online lobbies with arcade cabinets, and World Tour, a single-player story where you build your own fighter and learn from the masters in Metro City. Eighteen fighters at launch, with more added every year.
What Works
The Drive system is brilliant. One meter for parries, rushes, reversals, and armored hits gives every match a clear economy. Modern controls let new players fire specials with one button while still respecting the skill ceiling. Netcode is solid, the training mode and combo trials are deep, and live commentary makes casual matches feel like a tournament. World Tour is goofy and charming, and it teaches the game better than any tutorial.
What Breaks
Listen well. World Tour drags in the middle with grindy fights. The premium currency and cosmetic shop feel greedy next to a full price game. New characters cost extra. And like every fighter, ranked will humble you fast.
Who Should Play
Play if you have ever wanted to get into fighting games, or you already love them. Skip if you only want single-player action. Grab a friend, share a couch, and let the bananas fly.
