Sit with me a moment. Cal Kestis is not a scared Padawan anymore. He opens this game five years older, cutting through an Imperial tower on Coruscant like a man with nothing left to lose. Then the crew scatters, the ship goes down on Koboh, and the real game begins: a wide frontier valley full of secrets, ledges, and things that hit very hard.

What It Wants To Be

Respawn's 2023 sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order. A Souls-lite action adventure with a lightsaber, where meditation points act as checkpoints and enemies return when you rest. Cal now has five stances: single blade, double-bladed, dual wield, the heavy crossguard, and a blaster stance. The planets are bigger and more open, and Koboh works as a home base that grows as you recruit people.

What Works

Combat is excellent once you find your stances. Parries feel sharp, and the crossguard and blaster stances change how fights play. Koboh is a great hub, packed with shortcuts, optional bosses, and a cantina that fills up as you help people. Traversal adds a grappling hook and rideable creatures. The story is stronger than the first game, with a villain who lands and a crew that feels like family.

What Breaks

Listen well. Launch performance was rough, worst on PC, and patches helped, but frame drops can still show up. The map can be confusing, and backtracking is part of the deal. Some puzzles drag. And the difficulty spikes on certain bosses will frustrate players who wanted pure Star Wars action rather than a Souls-lite.

Who Should Play

Play if you like parry-based combat, hunting for secrets, and a Star Wars story with real weight. Skip if you hate dying to bosses or backtracking. Want harder parries after this? Read my Sekiro and Lies of P verdicts.

STRENGTHS

  • Five lightsaber stances, including a blaster stance
  • Koboh hub full of secrets
  • Stronger story than Fallen Order
  • Satisfying parries

HONEST COSTS

  • Launch performance problems, worst on PC
  • Confusing map
  • Some slow puzzles
  • Boss difficulty spikes
