Get Lies of P on AmazonSit with me a moment. Many studios copy the souls formula and forget the soul. Lies of P remembers. A dark retelling of Pinocchio should not work this well, yet I kept walking deeper into Krat because the next street always had a better fight.
What It Wants To Be
Neowiz and Round8 Studio's soulslike, released September 2023. You are a puppet in a fallen Belle Epoque city. Parry-heavy combat, a weapon system where you swap blades and handles, and a lie system that shapes your ending.
What Works
The parry timing is tight and satisfying. Weapon assembly lets you build odd and fun combos. Krat looks fantastic, with lamp-lit streets and gothic rot. Bosses get stronger as the game goes, which is rare in this genre. A prequel expansion, Overture, arrived in 2025.
What Breaks
Listen well. Early hours lean hard on borrowed ideas, and the parry window feels stingy until you level up. Some bosses have long, harsh second phases. Level design is more corridor than open map, so explorers may want more freedom.
Who Should Play
Play if you loved Bloodborne or Sekiro and want another strong blade to master. Skip if you came for an open world or if strict parry timing makes you grind your teeth.
