Get Sekiro on AmazonSit with me a moment. Sekiro does not care how you played other FromSoftware games. Dodge and roll habits get you killed. The day the deflect clicks, steel ringing on steel, I felt like a student who finally earned the master's nod.
What It Wants To Be
FromSoftware's 2019 shinobi action game, published by Activision. A fixed hero, Wolf, a prosthetic arm with tools, and a posture system where breaking an enemy's guard matters more than chipping health. Steam app 814380 sells the GOTY Edition.
What Works
Combat is a conversation. Deflect, read the tell, punish, and the rhythm becomes music. Grappling turns stealth and movement vertical. Boss duels are some of the best ever made. Resurrection lets you get back up once, which changes how you gamble. It took Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2019.
What Breaks
Listen well. There is no build variety to hide behind. If one boss walls you, you must get better, full stop. No co-op summons either. The mid-game mini-boss repeats wear thin, and the early hours punish anyone who refuses to unlearn old habits.
Who Should Play
Play if you want pure mastery and a teacher who does not lie. Skip if you need a way to grind past a wall, or if hard fights spoil your evening instead of making it.
