RUNE FACTORY: GUARDIANS OF AZUMA: FARM, FIGHT, FALL IN LOVE, REBUILD A VILLAGE

8.5 of 10 bananas. Marvelous mixes farming, village building, relationships, and real action combat in a world inspired by old Japan. It is the most complete Rune Factory yet, with some technical rough edges.

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, update history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (released June 2025), with a PS5 version later (developed and published by Marvelous). The Amazon button is the Switch Standard Edition cartridge. At my Nov 5 2026 check it was sold by Amazon.com at 29.99 dollars, and stock looked low. Get Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma for Switch on AmazonSit with me a moment. Some evenings an old ape does not want a boss fight. He wants to water turnips, chat with the neighbors, and maybe swing a sword before supper. Guardians of Azuma lets you do all of it in one day.
What It Wants To Be
Guardians of Azuma is a farming life sim and action RPG. You wake up with no memory in a land called Azuma, find you can command the seasons, and rebuild villages that a disaster broke. You grow crops, place buildings, make friends, marry, and clear dungeons with real time combat.
What Works
The Switch version sits at 81 on Metacritic, and the later PS5 version reviewed even higher. Critics praised the village building, which is a real upgrade over plain farming, and the lovable cast and romance options. The world is colorful, and the combat is better than older Rune Factory games. There is a lot to do every in game day.
What Breaks
Listen well. Reviewers mentioned technical hiccups on Switch, and the first hours move slowly while systems unlock. The story is gentle, not deep. If you only want combat, this is a lot of chores between fights.
Who Should Play
Play it if you love Stardew Valley but want swords and a story. Skip it if farming loops bore you.
