R.E.P.O.: HANDLE WITH CARE, RUN WITH SCREAMS

R.E.P.O. Steam header art with small round robots holding a flashlight beneath a looming monster face

8.0 of 10 bananas. A cheap co-op horror game where up to six little robots haul fragile, physics-driven valuables out of haunted places while monsters hunt them. Hilarious and tense with friends, but still early access and thin alone.

By the Alpha. Steam listing. Updated Oct 26 2026.

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, update history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.

Platforms: PC only, on Steam (semiwork, early access since February 26 2025). There is no console version. The developer has said it will look at consoles after the game reaches version 1.0, so be careful with lookalike games on console and phone stores. The button is the Steam store page, 9.99 dollars at my Oct 26 check, and it is the honest only choice.

Sit with me a moment. I have watched young apes carry a priceless vase across a dark mansion, slowly, gently, then drop it the moment something growled. The scream is the same in every language.

What It Wants To Be

You and up to five friends are small robots sent into creepy places to find valuables and bring them back to an extraction point, to satisfy a mysterious creator. Every object is physics based, so a painting can bump a door frame and lose value, and a heavy piano takes teamwork to move. Monsters roam the levels, voice chat is proximity based, and between runs you spend earnings on upgrades.

What Works

It exploded on launch, hitting an all-time peak of 266,908 players at once on Steam in March 2025, per SteamCharts. Its Steam reviews sit around 96 percent positive across roughly 430,000 reviews, per Raijin data from October 2026. The physics make every run a comedy, the monsters are scary and silly at once, and the free Cosmetic Update on May 7 2026 added a big pile of unlockable looks with no microtransactions.

What Breaks

Listen well. It is still early access, so content, balance, and bugs shift with updates, and there is no full release date. Alone, the game is thin and much harder. Player counts are far below the launch peak, though friends groups are what matter here. It is PC only, so console friends cannot join.

Who Should Play

Play it if you loved Lethal Company or Phasmophobia, or if your friend group laughs hardest when things go wrong. Skip it if you play alone or want a finished game.

STRENGTHS

  • Physics comedy in every run
  • Up to six players
  • Cheap
  • Free updates, no microtransactions

HONEST COSTS

  • Still early access
  • Thin solo
  • PC only
  • Beware lookalike games on other stores
ALPHA VERDICT: 8.0 of 10. A perfect ten dollar friend-group horror night. Early access, but already a classic of the genre. Get R.E.P.O. on Steam, then meet the troop on Twitch.

Store note: R.E.P.O. is PC only, so there is no Amazon game to link. Steam is the only button. This is not an affiliate link.
