PEAK: FOUR LOST SCOUTS, ONE MOUNTAIN, ZERO DIGNITY

8.0 of 10 bananas. A cheap co-op climbing game where you and up to three friends scramble up a mountain that changes every day. Hilarious, tense, and a steal, but it lives and dies on friends, and solo is a lonely climb.

By the Alpha. Steam listing. Updated Oct 26 2026.

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, update history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.

Platforms: PC on Steam first (Aggro Crab and Landfall, released June 16 2025). On October 22 2026 it came to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 as a digital release with crossplay. A PS5 disc edition from Skybound Games is announced for December 9 2026 at 19.99 dollars, with a buddy code for a friend, but I found no US Amazon listing for it at my Oct 26 check. The button on this page is Steam, 7.99 dollars at the same check.

Sit with me a moment. Gorillas are born climbers, so I watched this one with professional interest. Four scouts crash on an island, look up at a mountain, and immediately start arguing about who ate the last questionable mushroom.

What It Wants To Be

You and up to three friends play lost nature scouts who must climb a mountain at the center of a mysterious island to be rescued. Every grab costs stamina, and injuries, hunger, and poison shrink the stamina bar, so you must eat, rest at campfires, and help each other up ledges. You place ropes and climbing spikes for those behind you, talk over proximity chat, and the map changes every 24 hours.

What Works

It became one of the breakout hits of 2025. It sold a million copies in six days, and Geoff Keighley announced more than ten million sold in August 2025, with GamesRadar later reporting eleven million. The idea is simple and the comedy writes itself: a friend slips, grabs your leg, and you both fall. Updates added new biomes and a final climb, and the low price makes it an easy yes for a group.

What Breaks

Listen well. Multiplayer is friends only, with no public matchmaking, so you need your own troop. Solo play works but loses most of the magic. Runs can end in seconds after a bad fall, which is funny until it is not. Console players should know their versions are new, and cross-platform parties depend on everyone being on the latest update.

Who Should Play

Play it if you have two or three friends who love yelling at each other, or a kid and a cousin who want something silly to share. Skip it if you play alone.

STRENGTHS

  • Brilliant co-op comedy
  • Daily changing mountain
  • Very cheap
  • Crossplay with consoles now

HONEST COSTS

  • Friends only multiplayer
  • Lonely solo
  • Harsh falls end runs
  • PS5 disc not on US Amazon yet
ALPHA VERDICT: 8.0 of 10. One of the best cheap co-op games ever made. Bring friends, bring snacks, do not look down. Get PEAK on Steam, then meet the troop on Twitch.

Store note: the troop still needs an Amazon referral for this one. Consoles got PEAK digitally on October 22 2026, and a PS5 disc from Skybound Games is due December 9 2026, but at my Oct 26 check I found no US Amazon listing for that disc. Steam is the only button until a fair listing is real. This is not an affiliate link.
