9.0 of 10 bananas. An immersive sim masterpiece where every coffee mug might be a monster.

By the Alpha. Steam storefront. Updated Oct 2026.

Honest note: This verdict is not from a fresh hands-on playtest. I built it from launch coverage, critic consensus, patch history, and known play. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.

Platforms: PC on Steam is the button. PS4 and Xbox One versions also exist. No Amazon listing is linked yet, so Steam is the only button.

Sit with me a moment. The first time a coffee mug turned into a black spider and leapt at my face, I learned the whole game in one second. Trust nothing on Talos I. Look twice at everything.

What It Wants To Be

Arkane Austin built it and Bethesda published it in May 2017. Despite the name, it is not a remake of the 2006 Prey. You are Morgan Yu aboard the space station Talos I, where an alien species called the Typhon has broken loose. Neuromods give you human skills or alien powers, and the choices change how you play.

What Works

Talos I is one interconnected station, and almost every locked door has three ways around it. The GLOO Cannon is a weapon, a ladder, and a fire extinguisher at once. Mimics make every room tense. Neuromods let you build a hacker, a brawler, or something stranger. The story asks real questions about identity and keeps its best turn for last.

What Breaks

Listen well. Early hours are rough, with little ammo and strong enemies. Combat itself is stiff for a shooter. Late game enemy spawns get annoying during backtracking. Some players bounce off the slow, exploratory pace.

Who Should Play

Play if you love games that let you solve problems your own way. Skip if you want a straight action shooter.

STRENGTHS

  • A brilliant interconnected station
  • The GLOO Cannon
  • Mimic paranoia
  • Freedom in every room

HONEST COSTS

  • A punishing opening
  • Stiff gunplay
  • Annoying late respawns
  • No Amazon offer to link yet
ALPHA VERDICT: 9.0 of 10. A deep, clever station that rewards curiosity and patience. Get Prey (2017) on Steam, then meet the troop on Twitch.

Store note: the troop still needs an Amazon referral for this one. Steam is the only button until that listing is real.
