8.0 of 10 bananas. A driving survival game where you patch up an old station wagon and push it through a strange exclusion zone in the Pacific Northwest. The bond with your car is unforgettable, but the crafting grind and repeated runs slow it down.

By the Alpha. Steam listing. Updated Oct 23 2026.

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, update history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.

Platforms: PC on Steam, plus PS5 (Ironwood Studios, published by Kepler Interactive, released February 2024). The button on this page is the Steam store page, 29.99 dollars at my Oct 23 check. On Amazon US the PS5 disc was a pre-order with a December 31 2026 release date, so I am not sending you to wait two months for a game you can play today. There is no Amazon button.

Sit with me a moment. Every gorilla has a favorite branch, the one that held when the storm came. In Pacific Drive, that branch is a rusty station wagon, and by the end you will talk to it like an old friend.

What It Wants To Be

You are stranded inside the Olympic Exclusion Zone, a sealed off stretch of the Pacific Northwest full of anomalies that bend physics. Your only way through is an old station wagon. You drive out on runs, scavenge parts and materials, outrun the storm that closes each area, and return to a garage where you repair and upgrade the car. Each run reveals more of the zone and its story.

What Works

The car is the heart of the game. Doors fall off, tires burst, and every part you bolt on yourself makes the wagon feel like yours. The wagon even develops strange quirks over time, and diagnosing them is part of the fun. The zone is eerie, the music fits the long drives, and the escape from a closing storm is a real thrill. Critics praised its atmosphere and originality.

What Breaks

Listen well. The crafting tree asks for a lot of grinding, and early runs can feel repetitive. Inventory and garage management can feel heavy. Some players found the difficulty spikes unfair when one bad anomaly wrecks a long run. It is a slow game by design, and the story sits behind a lot of work.

Who Should Play

Play it if you love survival crafting, long drives, and strange worlds, or if you want something truly different. Skip it if you hate grinding for parts or want a straight racing game.

STRENGTHS

  • Unforgettable car bond
  • Eerie, original zone
  • Great storm escapes

HONEST COSTS

ALPHA VERDICT: 8.0 of 10. An original road trip into the strange. Drive it if you have patience for the grind. Get Pacific Drive on Steam, then meet the troop on Twitch.

Store note: the troop still needs an Amazon referral for this one. At my Oct 23 check the US PS5 disc on Amazon was still a pre-order releasing December 31 2026. Steam is the only button until a fair listing is real. This is not an affiliate link.
