Sit with me a moment. Every autumn a new basketball game arrives and promises it listened. Some years it did. This year the court got better, and the shop got louder.
What It Wants To Be
NBA 2K27 is a basketball simulation. You can play quick games, run a franchise for up to 100 years in MyNBA, build a player in MyCAREER, collect cards in MyTEAM, or hang out in The City, an online hub that is co-ed for the first time with WNBA players. A new MyCAREER Eras mode lets you play through different periods of league history.
What Works
On the court it is the best basketball game around. Critics praised the balanced two way gameplay and tougher defense, and the PS5 version holds a 78 on Metacritic. The presentation looks like a real broadcast, and offline modes like MyNBA are deep enough to last a whole season. Adding WNBA stars to The City is a real step forward.
What Breaks
Listen well. Virtual Currency is everywhere. Upgrading a MyCAREER player fast pushes you toward spending real money, and MyTEAM is built around packs. IGN gave it a 6 out of 10, OpenCritic shows only 60 percent of critics recommending it, and the Metacritic user score was 3.3 out of 10 at my check. Many players say it is too close to last year. Online modes depend on 2K's servers.
Who Should Play
Play it if you love basketball and mostly play offline modes like MyNBA or quick games. Think twice if you hate microtransactions or own NBA 2K26 and play it often.
