METRO 2039: BACK INTO THE TUNNELS

Honest note: This is a preview, not a review, and not a hands-on playtest. Nobody outside the studio has played the finished game. I built it from official announcements, trailers, and the confirmed release date. Anything not confirmed by the studio is expectation, not fact.
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam and Epic) on February 4 2027, February 5 in some territories. The Amazon button is the US PS5 Deluxe Edition pre-order: game disc, Steelbook, hardback art book, story expansion DLC, digital art book, digital soundtrack, and Specialist Pack DLC. At my Oct 17 check it was a pre-order sold by Amazon.com at 109.99 dollars. Listen well: the Standard Edition is 69.99 dollars on Steam and on console stores, and I could not verify a Standard Edition Amazon listing yet. If you only want the game, the Deluxe box costs you 40 more dollars.

Every flicker of the lighter mattered. When 4A Games says it is going back to the tunnels, I listen, and I check my gas mask.
What It Wants To Be
4A Games calls METRO 2039 the next landmark first-person shooter in the series. A quarter century after the war, Moscow's survivors have been united under Hunter, the first Spartan, now ruling as a fanatical leader of the Novoreich. You play the Stranger, a recluse haunted by waking nightmares, forced back into the Metro. The studio promises a single-player story co-written with Dmitry Glukhovsky, stealth and gunfights against soldiers and mutants, crafting in the heat of battle, gear that breaks down, and a UV tool for secrets.
What Has Been Shown
What is proven so far is the look. The game won Best Visuals at gamescom 2026, and the first console footage at the September State of Play was captured on PS5 Pro at 4K and 60 frames per second. 4A has confirmed a 60 fps Performance Mode with ray tracing on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X, and says it is the first Metro built from the ground up for ray tracing. The studio's record with Metro Exodus and the series' survival tension give me reason to expect a strong campaign.
What We Do Not Know Yet
Listen well. Nobody outside the studio has played the full game. Everything about pacing, length, bugs, and performance on base consoles is unknown until February. Metro games have shipped with rough edges before. The Amazon button is the pricey Deluxe box, not the Standard game. Treat my score as an expectation, nothing more.
Who Should Play
Watch it if you loved Metro Exodus or Metro 2033 and want a dark solo shooter with real dread. Wait for launch reviews before you pay if you only buy finished verdicts.
