8.5 of 10 bananas. Metro Exodus finally lets Artyom breathe surface air, and the jungle out there is cold, wide, and hungry.

By the Alpha. Steam storefront. Updated Oct 2026.

Honest note: This verdict is not from a fresh hands-on playtest. I built it from launch coverage, critic consensus, patch history, and known play. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.

Platforms: PC on Steam is the button. PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One versions also exist. No Amazon listing is linked yet, so Steam is the only button.

Sit with me a moment. Most post-apocalypse games hand you a ruined city and a map full of icons. Metro Exodus hands you a train, a crew, a gas mask with a cracked visor, and a long road east. I respect a game that makes you count your filters.

What It Wants To Be

4A Games built it and Deep Silver published it in February 2019. Artyom and the Spartan Order leave the Moscow metro aboard the steam train Aurora and cross Russia over roughly a year. Levels open up into wide sandbox zones, like the Volga in spring and the Caspian desert, then close again into tight, scripted stretches.

What Works

The journey structure is the star. Each season and region changes the mood, and the train between missions turns your crew into people you miss. Crafting at workbenches and cleaning your weapons keep you thinking like a scavenger. Night sneaking still feels tense. On PC the Enhanced Edition pushes ray traced lighting that makes dark bunkers properly frightening.

What Breaks

Listen well. Gunplay is heavier than it is sharp, and human enemies can act strangely. Open zones have stretches of empty walking. Stealth detection is inconsistent, and some bugs and odd voice moments break the spell. If you want a tight corridor shooter like the earlier Metro games, the sandbox stretches can feel slow.

Who Should Play

Play if you like slow survival shooters, atmosphere, and stories told on the road. Skip if you want fast arena gunplay or a giant open world full of tasks.

STRENGTHS

  • A real journey across seasons
  • A crew you come to care about
  • Tense scavenging and crafting
  • Stunning lighting on PC

HONEST COSTS

  • Heavy, imprecise gunplay
  • Empty stretches in open zones
  • Inconsistent stealth
  • No Amazon offer to link yet
ALPHA VERDICT: 8.5 of 10. A brave, beautiful survival shooter that trades tunnels for open wounds. Get Metro Exodus on Steam, then meet the troop on Twitch.

Store note: the troop still needs an Amazon referral for this one. Steam is the only button until that listing is real.
