8.0 of 10 bananas. Lilith comes home, the world turns to ash, and the loot keeps falling.

By the Alpha. PS5 disc listing. Updated Oct 2026.

Platforms: The PS5 disc is the Amazon button. It also runs on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC on Steam and Battle.net. It needs an internet connection and a Battle.net account on every platform, even solo. At my check the listing was sold by a third-party seller, so check the seller and price before you pay. The Vessel of Hatred expansion is sold separately.

Sit with me a moment. The opening village of Diablo IV is the darkest thing Blizzard has made in twenty years. Snow, blood, and a church full of people who should not be smiling. Then Lilith, daughter of Hatred, walks into frame, and you know this series has come back to its roots: horror first, loot second.

What It Wants To Be

Blizzard's 2023 action RPG. Lilith has returned to Sanctuary, and you hunt her across an open world split into five regions. Five classes at launch: Barbarian, Sorcerer, Druid, Rogue, and Necromancer. The Vessel of Hatred expansion in October 2024 added the Spiritborn class and the jungle region of Nahantu. Seasons keep adding new mechanics, and you can team up with friends in co-op.

What Works

The campaign is the best story in the series, with a grim tone and a villain worth chasing. Combat feels heavy and satisfying, and every class has a clear identity. The world looks like a painting dipped in ash. Seasons and the expansion fixed many of the early loot complaints, and co-op with friends is easy to set up.

What Breaks

Listen well. The open world felt thin at launch, and the endgame took several seasons to find its shape. The always online requirement means lag and server queues can hit even solo players. A battle pass and cosmetic shop sit next to a full price game. And the grind loop will not hook everyone after the credits.

Who Should Play

Play if you love dark loot RPGs and want a strong campaign plus seasons to chew on. Skip if you hate always online games or live service shops. Want a deeper, slower RPG? Read my Baldur's Gate 3 verdict.

STRENGTHS

  • Darkest and best campaign in the series
  • Heavy, satisfying class combat
  • Seasons and an expansion keep it growing
  • Easy co-op

HONEST COSTS

  • Always online, even solo
  • Endgame needed seasons to mature
  • Battle pass and cash shop
  • The grind will not hook everyone
ALPHA VERDICT: 8.0 of 10. A dark, handsome return to form with a live service tail. Worth it for the campaign alone. Get Diablo IV for PS5 on Amazon, then meet the troop on Twitch.
