Sit with me a moment. I have sat at many campfires. Few games let me talk my way past a boss, push him off a ledge, or lose the whole fight to one bad roll and laugh about it. Baldur's Gate 3 does all three in one evening.

What It Wants To Be

Larian's big Dungeons and Dragons RPG, built on fifth edition rules. Turn-based fights, a party of strong companions, and a story that bends hard to your choices. Full release on PC was August 3, 2023, with PS5 and Xbox after. Steam app 1086940.

What Works

Freedom with consequences. Almost every problem has three answers, and the game remembers which one you picked. Companions argue, flirt, and leave. Combat rewards terrain, height, and dirty tricks. Co-op lets up to four friends wreck the plan together online. Critics and players agreed: Steam lists a Metacritic 96, and it took Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2023.

What Breaks

Listen well. The final act is crowded. The city is dense and some threads feel less polished than the first two acts. Turn-based fights can drag with a big party, and the systems are heavy if you never touched a tabletop rulebook. Save often. The dice do not care about your feelings.

Who Should Play
