DEVIL MAY CRY 5: STYLE IS THE SCORE

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, patch history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.

Platforms: The Amazon button is the PS5 Special Edition disc (Capcom). At my check it was sold by a third-party seller and shipped by Amazon. Special Edition adds Vergil as a playable character, Turbo mode, Legendary Dark Knight mode, and ray tracing on PS5. The original game also runs on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on Steam, where Vergil is paid DLC.

Sit with me a moment. Some gorillas fight to survive. Dante fights to show off, and Devil May Cry 5 teaches you why that matters. My first S rank came by accident, in a hallway, with a motorcycle. I have been chasing that feeling ever since.

What It Wants To Be

Capcom's 2019 return of the demon hunters, directed by Hideaki Itsuno. A demonic tree has rooted itself in Red Grave City, and three hunters take it on: Nero with his swappable Devil Breaker arms, the mysterious V who commands summons from a distance, and Dante with four styles and a pile of strange weapons. The Special Edition on PS5 adds Vergil as a fourth playable hunter.

What Works

The combat is a masterclass. Every hunter plays like a different instrument, and the style meter rewards variety over spam. Dante is a toolbox with no bottom. Nero's arms turn every fight into an experiment. The bosses are loud, creative, and fair. The soundtrack reacts to your rank, and Bloody Palace gives the skilled a long ladder to climb. Turbo mode on Special Edition makes it even sharper.

What Breaks

Listen well. Red Grave City is a run of gray streets and fleshy corridors. Some bosses come back for repeat fights. V's hands-off style splits the troop. The story is cheesy by design, which you either love or tolerate. And the real game lives on higher difficulties, which some players never reach.

Who Should Play

Play if you love action games that reward practice, style, and experimentation. Skip if you want exploration, open worlds, or a serious story. If Sifu taught you to love mastery, this is the next mountain.
