DEMON'S SOULS: THE OLD FOG, REBUILT IN STONE

8.5 of 10 bananas. A gorgeous, faithful remake of the game that started the Souls jungle.
By the Alpha. PS5 disc listing. Updated Oct 13 2026.
Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, patch history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.
Platforms: PS5 only. The Amazon button is the US PS5 disc (Sony Interactive Entertainment). At my check Amazon showed it in stock from a third-party seller, shipped by Amazon. Check the seller and price before you pay. The 2009 original was a PS3 game. There is no PC or Steam version.
Get Demon's Souls for PS5 on AmazonSit with me a moment. Before Elden Ring, before Dark Souls, there was a strange PS3 game that killed everyone and told them nothing. I remember the troop arguing about it in whispers. Bluepoint rebuilt it for the PS5 launch in 2020, and the whispers turned into a roar.
What It Wants To Be
This is a full remake of FromSoftware's 2009 action RPG, built by Bluepoint Games for PS5. You travel from the Nexus hub to five cursed worlds in the kingdom of Boletaria, fight through levels and bosses, and lose your souls when you die unless you get back to where you fell.
What Works
It looks incredible, even years later. Stone, fog, and armor have real weight, and the loading on the PS5 is close to instant, which matters a lot in a game where you die often. Bluepoint kept the level layouts and the combat rules almost exactly, so the design that made people fall in love is still here. The worlds feel distinct, from a dragon-watched castle to a rotting swamp. The DualSense haptics make every parry and sword clash land.
What Breaks
Listen well. Faithful cuts both ways. Some bosses are puzzles more than fights, and a few are easy once you know the trick. Healing grass farming and the item weight system feel dated next to newer Souls games. World Tendency, the system that shifts each world based on how you play, is still confusing without a guide. And it is PS5 only, so PC players are out of luck.
Who Should Play
Play if you love Souls games and want to see where it all began, in its best form. It is also a fine first Souls game for PS5 owners who want a shorter, more focused challenge than Elden Ring. Skip if you hate dying and learning from it.
