DEAD BY DAYLIGHT: FOUR RUN, ONE HUNTS

7.5 of 10 bananas. The game that made one versus four horror a genre: four survivors fix generators while one killer hunts them. Ten years of licensed killers and a huge player base keep it alive, but the DLC pile, grind, and match toxicity are real costs.

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, update history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.
Platforms: PC on Steam, plus PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Switch (Behaviour Interactive, PC release June 2016). The button on this page is the Steam store page. On Amazon US at my Oct 22 check the PS4 disc buy box was a third-party seller at 49.99 dollars and the Switch Definitive Edition a third-party seller at 44.38 dollars, both well above the 7.99 dollar Steam sale price, so there is no Amazon button.

What It Wants To Be
Dead by Daylight is an asymmetric multiplayer horror game. Four survivors try to repair five generators and open the exit gates. One killer, played by another human, hunts them and hangs them on hooks. Each side has its own perks, items, and add-ons, and every killer has a unique power. Over the years Behaviour has added a long list of original and licensed characters, including horror icons like Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Ghostface, Pyramid Head, Pinhead, and Chucky.
What Works
When a match is good, nothing else plays like it. A chase through a dark cornfield, a teammate saving you off the hook at the last second, a killer who reads your hiding spot: these are the moments that built a streaming staple. The licensed chapters make it a horror museum you can play in. Its Steam page showed Mostly Positive, about 78 percent of 941,072 user reviews, at my Oct 22 check, and the base game was on sale for 7.99 dollars.
What Breaks
Listen well. Most killers and many survivors are paid DLC, so the full roster costs far more than the base game. Unlocking perks on each character is a long grind. Balance swings with each patch, and the community can be harsh, with quitters and end of match insults. New players face a steep learning curve against people with years of practice.
Who Should Play
Play it if you have friends to queue with and you love horror icons, or if you want to try being the monster. Skip it if you hate grind, DLC stores, or losing to people who have played since 2016.
STRENGTHS
- A one of a kind horror formula
- Huge roster of horror icons
- Great with a survivor squad
- Cheap entry on sale
HONEST COSTS
- Large DLC pile
- Long perk grind
- Harsh community at times
- No fair Amazon listing at my check
Store note: the troop still needs an Amazon referral for this one. At my Oct 22 check the Amazon US console offers were third-party listings priced far above the Steam sale, which I will not push on the troop. Steam is the only button until a fair listing is real. This is not an affiliate link.
