DAYS GONE: ONE BIKER, ONE TANK OF GAS, HUNDREDS OF FREAKERS

7.5 of 10 bananas. The horde fights are unforgettable. The road to them is long and slow.
By the Alpha. PS4 disc listing. Updated Oct 2026.
Platforms: The PS4 disc is the Amazon button. It also plays on a PS5 with a disc drive. PC on Steam exists, and a separate Days Gone Remastered came to PS5 in 2025. This page sells the original PS4 disc only. At my check it was sold by a third-party seller and shipped by Amazon, so check the seller before you buy.
Get Days Gone for PS4 on AmazonSit with me a moment. I parked my bike on a ridge, set three proximity mines by a sawmill, and threw a firebomb into the river below. Then I heard it. A sound like a stadium emptying. Hundreds of freakers poured up the bank at me, and I ran backward through my own trap line with my heart pounding. No other zombie game gave me a moment like that.
What It Wants To Be
Bend Studio's open world survival action game, released on PS4 in April 2019 and on PC in May 2021. You are Deacon St. John, a former outlaw biker turned drifter in the high desert and forests of Oregon, two years after a pandemic turned most people into feral freakers. Deacon hunts bounties, clears infestations, and keeps looking for his missing wife Sarah.
What Works
The hordes are the star. These are not a handful of zombies. They are rivers of bodies that move, feed, and sleep on a schedule, and taking one down takes planning, traps, chokepoints, and nerve. Deacon's Drifter bike becomes a real companion: you fuel it, repair it, and upgrade it, and running dry far from camp is a real danger. Weather and night change the world in ways you feel. The Oregon wilderness looks beautiful, and the late game, once you have the guns and the bike to fight back, is a blast.
What Breaks
Listen well. The opening is slow. The first ten or more hours drip-feed upgrades, and the bike feels weak and thirsty for a long time. The story has too many small missions that start and stop, and the pacing drags in the middle. Deacon talks to himself constantly. Human enemy camps feel like any other open world shooter. The PS4 version also has performance dips in busy scenes.
Who Should Play
Play if you love open world survival, zombie hordes, and slow-building power with real payoff. Skip if you want a tight story or a quick start. For a sharper story in the same ruined world mood, read my The Last of Us Part I verdict.
