9.5 of 10 bananas. The foundation of modern tough-fair design, cleaned up at 60fps with Artorias of the Abyss included.

By the Alpha. PS4 disc listing. Updated Oct 15 2026.

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, patch history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.

Platforms: The Amazon button is Dark Souls Remastered for PlayStation 4 (Bandai Namco, ASIN verified), including Artorias of the Abyss. At my check new copies were in stock from third-party sellers fulfilled by Amazon, around the low twenties. It is also on PC through Steam, Xbox One, and Switch.

Sit with me a moment. Every young gorilla who dies at the Undead Burg thinks the game is cruel. Sit with me. It is honest. Dark Souls Remastered still teaches the same lesson: watch, learn, strike once.

What It Wants To Be

FromSoftware's remaster of the 2011 classic returns you to Lordran at 60fps with the Artorias of the Abyss content included. Interlocking shortcuts, cryptic lore, and multiplayer covenants define the loop.

What Works

Level design is still the masterpiece: paths fold back on themselves like vines. Combat rewards patience over panic. The remaster smooths frame pacing that once made Blighttown infamous. Online invasions and co-op keep the world feeling alive.

What Breaks

Listen well. Some mechanical jank from 2011 remains. The story still refuses to hold your hand. Newer Souls games refine quality of life this one never got. Backtracking can feel long if you lose the thread.

Who Should Play

Play if you want the root of the Souls family or never finished the original. Skip if you only want the newest polish. Elden Ring is a wider canopy. This is the old tree.

STRENGTHS

  • Interlocking world design
  • Tough but fair combat
  • Artorias DLC included
  • 60fps remaster pass

HONEST COSTS

  • Old jank remains
  • Cryptic to a fault
  • QoL behind later Souls
  • Third-party Amazon stock
ALPHA VERDICT: 9.5 of 10. Play it if you want the root of the Souls tree. Skip it only if you already mastered later entries and refuse nostalgia. Get Dark Souls Remastered for PlayStation 4 on Amazon, then meet the troop on Twitch.
