BLOODBORNE: THE HUNT THAT TAUGHT ME TO ATTACK

9.5 of 10 bananas. FromSoftware's fastest, darkest hunt, and still stuck on one old console.
By the Alpha. PlayStation Store listing. Updated Oct 14 2026.
Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, patch history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.
Platforms: PS4 only. It also runs on PS5 through backward compatibility, still at 30 frames per second, with no PS5 patch and no PC version. The button goes to the official PlayStation Store page. No Amazon listing is linked yet, because the only in-stock copies I found were imports, so the troop earns nothing from this button.
Get Bloodborne on the PlayStation StoreSit with me a moment. In older FromSoftware games I hid behind a shield. Bloodborne took the shield away. The first beast in Yharnam taught me that standing back is how you die, and that pushing forward is how you heal. A silverback learned something new that week.
What It Wants To Be
FromSoftware's 2015 action RPG, directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki and published by Sony, sends a Hunter into the gothic city of Yharnam on the night of the hunt. A blood plague has turned citizens into beasts, and the deeper you go, the less the story stays about beasts. The Old Hunters expansion adds one of the studio's best areas.
What Works
Speed and aggression. The rally system lets you win back lost health by hitting back right away, so the game rewards courage. Trick weapons shift between two forms in the middle of a combo, and each one plays differently. Yharnam is a dense, layered city with shortcuts that loop back on themselves. The bosses are among the studio's best, and the cosmic horror creeps in slowly until it takes over.
What Breaks
Listen well. It is locked to 30 frames per second with uneven frame pacing, and Sony has never shipped a PS5 patch or a PC port. Loading screens on PS4 are long. The procedurally generated Chalice Dungeons are optional and uneven. Healing runs on a limited stock of vials, and farming them can become a grind for players who are stuck. It is hard, full stop.
Who Should Play
Play if you own a PS4 or PS5 and love hard, rewarding action with a dark heart. Skip if you need a high frame rate or an easy mode. Elden Ring is the bigger, friendlier door into this school.
STRENGTHS

- Superb bosses and The Old Hunters
HONEST COSTS
- 30 fps lock, uneven pacing
- Long PS4 loads
- Uneven Chalice Dungeons

Store note: the PlayStation Store is the only button until a real US Amazon listing is linked. The troop earns nothing from it.
