7.5 of 10 bananas. A smaller, stealthier Assassin's Creed set in a gorgeous ninth-century Baghdad. A welcome return to roots, but safe, short, and thin on surprises.

By the Alpha. Steam listing. Updated Oct 19 2026.

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, update history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.

Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC (Ubisoft Bordeaux and Ubisoft, released October 5 2023). Later ports reached other devices too. The button on this page is the Steam store page for PC. I checked Amazon on Oct 19: the US PS5 Launch Edition listing had no featured offer, so there is no Amazon button yet.

Sit with me a moment. The Assassin's Creed games grew so big that a gorilla could get lost in one for a season. Mirage is Ubisoft stepping back from the buffet and serving one plate. I respect a creature that knows its appetite.

What It Wants To Be

Mirage follows Basim, a young street thief who joins the Hidden Ones in ninth-century Baghdad. It is built as a return to the early games: one dense city instead of a continent, social stealth in crowds, eavesdropping, and black box assassinations where you scout a target and pick your own way in. Leveling and loot are pared back. Basim has a falcon named Enkidu for scouting and an Assassin Focus skill that chains several kills in a row.

What Works

Baghdad is the star. The city is dense, layered, and beautiful, and running across its rooftops feels like the old games at their best. Stealth is sharper than in Valhalla, and the black box missions give you real choices. The game respects your time, with a campaign many players finish in around fifteen to twenty hours. Critics landed it in the mid to high seventies on aggregate, praising the setting and the focus.

What Breaks

Listen well. Combat is shallow, and once you are spotted, fights become a parry and dodge routine. The AI is easy to fool, which drains the tension out of stealth. Basim's story and characters are forgettable for long stretches. Outside the black box missions, side content is thin. It plays like a well made remix of old ideas, not a new step.

Who Should Play

Play it if you miss the early Assassin's Creed games, want a shorter open world, or love historical cities. Skip it if you want deep combat or RPG systems. Valhalla or Shadows suit that better.

STRENGTHS

  • Gorgeous, dense Baghdad
  • Sharper stealth than recent entries
  • Black box assassinations
  • Respects your time

HONEST COSTS

  • Shallow combat
  • Easy to fool AI
  • Forgettable story
  • No Amazon listing with a featured offer yet
ALPHA VERDICT: 7.5 of 10. Play it on sale. A tidy, loving return to the rooftops, not a reinvention. Get Assassin's Creed Mirage on Steam, then meet the troop on Twitch.

Store note: the troop still needs an Amazon referral for this one. Steam is the only button until a fair listing is real.
