7.5 of 10 bananas. Great raids, a strong hero in Eivor, and an England so big it forgets to end.

By the Alpha. PS5 disc listing. Updated Oct 12 2026.

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, patch history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.

Platforms: The Amazon button is the PS5 disc (Ubisoft). At my check Amazon showed it in stock from a third-party seller, shipped by Amazon. Check the seller and price before you pay. It is also on PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on Steam and Ubisoft Connect.

Sit with me a moment. There is a moment in Valhalla when your longship slides up a misty river, the crew starts a song, and you hit the horn to raid a monastery. That moment is magic. The trouble is that I felt it at hour five and was still sailing at hour eighty.

What It Wants To Be

Ubisoft's 2020 entry puts you in the boots of Eivor, a Viking raider who leaves Norway with the Raven Clan to settle in ninth century England. It is a full open world RPG in the style of Origins and Odyssey: raids, alliances with English kingdoms, a settlement to build, and a side story of Assassins and Templars running underneath.

What Works

Eivor is a great lead in either voice, and the story of brothers Sigurd and Eivor has real heart. Raids are thrilling. England is beautiful, and the settlement of Ravensthorpe gives you a home that grows with you. World events are often funny and strange. The music is excellent, and the expansions added serious extra value.

What Breaks

Listen well. It is enormous, and much of it is padding. The alliance arcs repeat the same shape over and over. Stealth, the series root, is weak. Combat is fine but shallow by the end. Launch bugs were common, and gear progression feels slow and fiddly. If you want a tight Assassin's Creed, this is not it.

Who Should Play

Play if you love Vikings, big open worlds, and long evenings with a podcast running. Skip if you want stealth, a tight story, or a game you can finish in a month. Wait for a sale.

STRENGTHS

  • Eivor and the brother story
  • Thrilling raids
  • Beautiful England
  • Ravensthorpe settlement

HONEST COSTS

  • Huge and padded
  • Repetitive alliance arcs
  • Weak stealth
  • Slow gear progression
