A PLAGUE TALE: REQUIEM: A SISTER, A BROTHER, A SEA OF RATS

8.0 of 10 bananas. A gorgeous, heartbreaking sequel with the best rat tides in games and a sister you will not forget. Stealth is strong, but combat is clumsy when a plan falls apart.
By the Alpha. PS5 game listing. Updated Oct 20 2026.
Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, update history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Asobo Studio and Focus Entertainment, released October 18 2022). A cloud version also reached Nintendo Switch. The Amazon button is the US PS5 disc, which per the listing includes the Protector Pack DLC. At my Oct 20 check the offer came from a third-party seller, shipped by Amazon, at 37.97 dollars, so check the seller before you pay.
Get A Plague Tale: Requiem for PS5 on AmazonSit with me a moment. A silverback would walk through fire for his young. Amicia de Rune walks through something worse: a living carpet of rats that eats the light. I have seen a lot of games try to make you feel protective. This one does it without ever saying the word.
What It Wants To Be
Requiem picks up after A Plague Tale: Innocence. Amicia and her little brother Hugo flee to the south of France, hoping to cure the curse in Hugo's blood, called the Macula. Hugo dreams of an island that might save him, and they chase it. It is a story-driven stealth adventure: you sneak past soldiers, use a sling, a crossbow, and alchemy, and turn fire, light, and the rat swarms into weapons and shields.
What Works
The story and the acting are the reason to play. Amicia and Hugo feel real, and the game lands hard emotional beats without cheap tricks. The world is beautiful, from sunny markets to burning cities, and the rat tides, thousands of animals moving as one, are a technical marvel and pure nightmare fuel. The levels are wider than the first game, which gives stealth more room. Critics landed in the low eighties, and many praised it as a big step up from Innocence.
What Breaks
Listen well. When stealth fails, combat gets clumsy. Amicia is fragile by design, but some fights feel like a punishment for a plan the game itself pushed you toward. The middle chapters drag. It is a heavy, grim story with a lot of death, so it is not a light evening. And the disc at my check came from a third-party seller.
Who Should Play
Play it if you love story games like The Last of Us, or if you played Innocence and need to know how it ends. Play Innocence first if you can. Skip it if you want freedom and power fantasy. This game is about being small in a cruel world.
