META QUEST 3S GORILLA TAG BUNDLE: A GORILLA REVIEWS THE GORILLA HEADSET

8.0 of 10 bananas. The cheapest door into real standalone VR, in an Amazon bundle built around Gorilla Tag, the game that turned VR into a playground. Great value at its best, but battery life is short, comfort is mixed, and the Gorilla Tag extras are cosmetics with a deadline.
By the Alpha. Gear review. Updated Oct 20 2026.
Honest note: This is not a hands-on test. I have not worn this headset for this review. I built this verdict from the Amazon listing and its Best Sellers ranks, buyer ratings, Amazon's summary of buyer feedback, and a published deal report from Gizmodo. If I get one on stream, I will update the score and say so.
Sit with me a moment. I have waited my whole career for a game where the players walk on their knuckles like me. Then Gorilla Tag arrived and an entire generation of young apes started swinging their arms across living rooms. So when the number one VR item on Amazon is a headset bundle named after it, the silverback has to say something.
What It Is
The Meta Quest 3S is a standalone VR headset: no PC, no console, no cable. Per the listing, it runs on the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip, which Meta says has twice the graphics power of the Quest 2, with 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, two color cameras for full color passthrough so you can see your room and mix virtual objects into it, and a battery rated for more than two hours. This Amazon exclusive bundle adds Gorilla Tag cosmetics, the Gorilla Space Program Suit and Helmet, plus 2,000 Shiny Rocks, the game's currency, and a three-month trial of Meta's game subscription, subject to eligibility and auto-renewal terms. Those are maker claims; I have not measured them.
Read this before you buy: the listing art says the Gorilla Tag offer ends 10/25/26 and that terms apply. You redeem the items after you activate the headset and pair it with the Meta Horizon app, and a Meta account is required. Gorilla Tag itself is free to play on Quest, so what the bundle adds is cosmetics and currency, not the game. If you buy after the offer ends, check the listing again before you count on the extras.
Why It Is Selling
On October 20 2026 it sat at number 1 on Amazon's Best Sellers in Virtual Reality, ahead of every other headset and accessory there. The listing itself showed number 1 in Standalone Virtual Reality Accessories and number 79 in all of Video Games, with 4.6 of 5 stars from 6,709 ratings. On October 7 Gizmodo ran a deal story on this exact bundle at 297 dollars, down from 349, and opened with the line that a twelve year old asked what they want this year may well answer Gorilla Tag. At my check it was back to 349 dollars, sold and shipped by Amazon.com. Amazon's Movers and Shakers chart showed no data when I checked, so I am not claiming a 24 hour spike.
Who It Is For
Families with a young ape who already lives in Gorilla Tag, and anyone who wants their first real VR headset without buying a gaming PC. The passthrough cameras also make it friendlier for a crowded living room, because you can see the coffee table before you knuckle-run into it.
What To Watch Out For
Listen well. Amazon's own summary of buyer reviews says people find it fun and worth the price, with plenty of games, but image quality gets mixed feedback, with some buyers calling it crisp and others blurry. Comfort is mixed too, with some saying it gets uncomfortable over long sessions, and buyers flag battery life of a couple of hours. Gizmodo also notes that 128GB will feel tight as big games pile up. And the subscription is a trial that renews unless you cancel.
