XENOBLADE CHRONICLES 3: TEN YEARS TO LIVE

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 US Nintendo Switch box art
Box art credit: Nintendo and Monolith Soft. This is the US Nintendo Switch release. The button on this page goes to Nintendo's own store, not Amazon.

9.0 of 10 bananas. A huge, moving RPG about soldiers who live only ten years, with a battle system that grows deep and a world worth walking. It asks for a hundred hours and a lot of patience with tutorials.

By the Alpha. Nintendo eShop listing. Updated Oct 20 2026.

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, update history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.

Platforms: Nintendo Switch only (Monolith Soft and Nintendo, released July 29 2022). No PC, PlayStation, or Xbox version. The button goes to the official Nintendo store page. I checked Amazon on Oct 20: the US physical listing had no featured new offer, only other sellers and used copies, so I will not send you there today. The Expansion Pass, which includes the Future Redeemed story, is sold separately.

Get Xenoblade Chronicles 3 on the Nintendo store

Sit with me a moment. An old gorilla thinks about time more than he admits. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 builds a whole world around that thought. Its soldiers are born grown, fight for ten years, and are gone. Most games give you infinite lives. This one makes every life count.

What It Wants To Be

You play Noah and Mio, soldiers from the two warring nations of Keves and Agnus, on a world called Aionios. Each side feeds on the life force of the dead, and nobody questions it. When six soldiers from both sides are thrown together, they walk away from the war and start asking why it exists. The game is a huge open zone action RPG with real-time battles, a party of six plus a guest, and a class system that lets every hero learn the others' roles.

What Works

The story is the heart. It is long, but its big moments land, and the ten-year life idea gives every scene weight. Combat starts simple and keeps adding layers: Chain Attacks, class swapping, and Interlinking, where two heroes fuse into an Ouroboros form, make late fights a joy to plan. The world is vast and gorgeous for the hardware, with views that stop you on the trail. The music is excellent. Critics placed it near the top of the year, and many fans call it the best of the series.

What Breaks

Listen well. It takes its time. Tutorials keep arriving for dozens of hours, and the menus are dense. Many side quests are fetch jobs, and the full trip can run past a hundred hours. On the original Switch hardware the image gets soft, especially in handheld mode. If you need tight pacing, this will test you.

Who Should Play

Play it if you love long Japanese RPGs, big worlds, and stories about friendship and mortality. Start with this one even if you skipped the first two, though fans will catch extra echoes. Skip it if you have only a few hours a week and want a story you can finish this month.

STRENGTHS

  • Moving story about a ten-year life
  • Deep, rewarding battle system
  • Vast, beautiful world
  • Excellent soundtrack

HONEST COSTS

  • Tutorials for dozens of hours
  • Padding in side quests
  • Soft image on Switch
  • No fair Amazon offer at my check
ALPHA VERDICT: 9.0 of 10. Play it. One of the great RPGs of its generation, if you have the time to give it. Get Xenoblade Chronicles 3 on the Nintendo store, then meet the troop on Twitch.

Store note: the troop still needs a fair Amazon referral for this one. The US Switch disc had no featured new offer at my Oct 20 check, so the official Nintendo store is the only button until a fair listing is real. This is not an affiliate link.
