SLIME RANCHER 2: THE HAPPIEST FARM IN THE GALAXY, IF YOU WATCH THE TARRS

8.0 of 10 bananas. Monomi Park's sequel sends Beatrix to Rainbow Island to vacuum up slimes, feed them, and sell their plorts. One of the coziest loops in gaming, with real secrets to find; the story is thin and the late game turns into a grind.
By the Alpha. Steam listing. Updated Nov 1 2026.
Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, update history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.
Platforms: PC on Steam (Windows), plus Xbox Series X|S and PS5. It was in early access from September 22 2022 and the full 1.0 release came out September 23 2025 (developed and published by Monomi Park). A Switch 2 version is planned for January 2027. The button is the Steam page, 17.99 dollars on sale from 29.99 at my Nov 1 2026 check. I did not verify a fair US Amazon listing for a console copy, so Steam is the only button.
Get Slime Rancher 2 on SteamSit with me a moment. Some games ask you to fight. Slime Rancher 2 asks you to feed a pink blob a carrot and watch it wiggle. Then you build a pen, then a farm, then an empire of happy goo. Hours vanish like bananas at breakfast.
What It Wants To Be
Slime Rancher 2 is a first person farming sim. As Beatrix LeBeau, you explore Rainbow Island with a vacuum gun, catch slimes, feed them, and sell the plorts they make. Mixing two slime types makes a largo with new needs. You upgrade your ranch, unlock tools, and uncover the ruins of an old civilization. Careless mixing can create Tarrs, hungry slimes that eat everything.
What Works
Reviews of the 1.0 release were positive, praising the art style, visuals, and addictive gameplay loop. Steam players have kept it strongly rated. Exploring the island is a joy, the new zones are prettier than the first game, and building an efficient ranch scratches the same itch as Stardew Valley.
What Breaks
Listen well. Critics called the story unengaging and the late game grind tedious. Once your ranch runs well, the goals get thin. There is no co-op, which surprises many players. And on Steam it is Windows only, so Mac players need another route.
Who Should Play
Play it if you love cozy games, farming loops, or exploring at your own pace. Skip it if you want a strong story, co-op, or constant challenge.

Store note: the troop still needs an Amazon referral for this one. I did not verify a fair US Amazon console listing for Slime Rancher 2. Steam is the only button until a fair listing is real. This is not an affiliate link.
