Get Red Dead Redemption 2 on AmazonSit with me a moment. I have waited a long time for GTA 6, so let me talk about the last Rockstar game that humbled me. Red Dead Redemption 2 asks you to slow down. Brush the horse. Eat at camp. Listen. If you do, Arthur Morgan becomes one of the best characters in games.
What It Wants To Be
Rockstar's 1899 western about the Van der Linde gang falling apart. It launched October 2018 on PS4 and Xbox One, then on PC in 2019. A huge open world, a long story, and an online mode on the side.
What Works
The world feels lived in like few others. Animals, strangers, weather, and towns all react. Arthur's arc lands hard and earns every hour. Writing and acting are top tier. Small details, like mud on your coat or snow on the trail, make the frontier feel real.
What Breaks
Listen well. Controls are heavy and animations are slow on purpose. Missions are strict about doing things one way. Looting and skinning wear thin. The epilogue is long. Some players will feel the realism as a chore, and that is a fair complaint.
Who Should Play
Play if you want a story-first western and you are willing to move at its pace. Skip if you want fast, flexible action or freedom in every mission. For the next Rockstar storm, read my GTA 6 preview.
