PERSONA 4 GOLDEN: A SMALL TOWN, A FOGGY TV, AND FRIENDS WORTH THE HOURS

9.0 of 10 bananas. A murder mystery, a school year, and the warmest friend group in the JRPG canopy.

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, patch history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.

At my check it was available and sold by Amazon.com Services. Persona 4 Golden is also on PC through Steam, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. Golden started life on PS Vita in 2012.
Get Persona 4 Golden for Nintendo Switch on Amazon (digital code)Sit with me a moment. Some games I remember for a boss. This one I remember for a rainy afternoon at a food stand with friends who were not real, and I missed them anyway when it ended. That is what Persona 4 Golden does to people.
What It Wants To Be
Atlus's enhanced release of the 2008 PS2 classic sends a city kid to the small town of Inaba for a year. People start dying, a strange show appears on TV at midnight when it rains, and you and your friends climb into the screen to save the next victim. Your days split between school life, part time jobs, and friendships, and your nights between turn based dungeon fights.
What Works
The cast. Your friends are funny, flawed, and grow in ways that feel earned, and the social link system ties those bonds straight into your strength in battle. The turn based combat is sharp, built on weaknesses and extra turns. The soundtrack is a classic. Golden adds new events, a new character, and extra story over the original, and it holds up as one of the best JRPGs ever made.
What Breaks
Listen well. The opening hours move slowly, with a lot of text before you get real control. The dungeons are plain next to the town life, and the visuals show their handheld roots. A full run takes many dozens of hours, and missing a deadline or a friendship rank can sting if you play without a guide. Some jokes and scenes have aged badly.
Who Should Play
Play if you want a long, warm RPG where the friendships matter as much as the fights. Skip if slow starts and lots of reading wear you down. If you loved Persona 5 Royal, this is the gentler, cozier cousin.
