MASS EFFECT LEGENDARY EDITION: THREE GAMES, ONE COMMANDER, YOUR CHOICES

9.0 of 10 bananas. The whole Shepard trilogy, cleaned up and in one box. A space epic that still hits.
By the Alpha. PS4 disc listing. Updated Oct 2026.
Honest note: This verdict is not from a fresh hands-on playtest. I built it from launch coverage, critic consensus, patch history, and known play. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.
Platforms: Mass Effect Legendary Edition is on PC through Steam, PS4, and Xbox, and the PS4 disc plays on a PS5 with a disc drive. The button is the Steam PC version, 59.99 dollars at my Oct 27 2026 check before any sale. It often drops far lower in Steam sales, so it pays to wait.
Get Mass Effect Legendary Edition on SteamSit with me a moment. Sixty hours into the trilogy, I had a crew member's loyalty on the line and a bad choice I had made two games earlier came back to bite me. I sat there, controller in hand, feeling like a real commander with real regrets. No other series made my choices feel this heavy.
What It Wants To Be
BioWare's remaster of the Mass Effect trilogy, released in May 2021 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. You are Commander Shepard, and across three games you fight to save the galaxy from the Reapers, ancient machines that wipe out all advanced life. Your choices carry over from game to game. The bundle includes almost all the story DLC, with remastered visuals and big changes to the first game's combat and driving.
What Works
The characters are the best part. Garrus, Tali, Liara, Wrex, and the rest feel like real friends, and their loyalty missions are the heart of the trilogy. Choices carry from game to game, which makes every decision matter. The first game feels much better with improved combat and Mako handling. Mass Effect 2 is still one of the best RPGs ever made. The universe is rich, the music is grand, and the scale feels earned.
What Breaks
Listen well. The first game still feels dated, with clunky combat and empty planets. The ending of Mass Effect 3 still splits fans, even with the Extended Cut included. The Mass Effect 3 multiplayer was removed. The Pinnacle Station DLC is missing. Some animations and faces still show their age despite the remaster.
Who Should Play
Play if you love story-driven RPGs, character relationships, and choices that matter. Skip if you hate dated combat or want a modern open world. For another RPG where choices shape everything, read my Baldur's Gate 3 verdict.
STRENGTHS
- Legendary companions
- Choices that carry across three games
- Mass Effect 2 is still elite
- Big upgrades to the first game
HONEST COSTS
- First game still feels dated
- Divisive ending
- Multiplayer removed
- Third-party seller and high price at my check
Store note: the troop still needs a fair Amazon listing for this one. At my Oct 27 2026 check, the PS4 disc had a single offer at 168.99 dollars, far too high for this game, so the button now goes to Steam instead. This is a plain link, not an affiliate link.
