Get Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth for PS5 on Amazon

Sit with me a moment. Early on, Ichiban Kasuga wakes up on a Honolulu beach without a stitch of clothing, and somehow the game makes that moment sweet. That is Like a Dragon in one picture. Ridiculous on the outside, all heart underneath.

What It Wants To Be

RGG Studio's 2024 turn-based RPG and the sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Ichiban goes to Hawaii to find his mother, while Kazuma Kiryu, the series legend, carries a heavy personal story of his own. Battles are turn-based, but you can move before each attack, and jobs reshape your party's skills. Honolulu is the biggest map in series history, and Yokohama returns too.

What Works

The combat is a big upgrade, with free movement, combo hits, and objects to swing. Jobs are wild and creative. The side content is the best in the series: Dondoko Island is a full island-building game, Sujimon battles parody monster collecting, and the substories swing from silly to sincere. Kiryu's story is the emotional anchor and lands like a farewell. Ichiban is one of the warmest leads in games.

What Breaks

Listen well. It is long, and the main story slows in the middle. Some late fights are grindy and expect you to level up. The final stretch leans on long cutscenes. Newcomers will miss much of Kiryu's weight without the earlier games.

Who Should Play

Play if you want a big RPG with heart, jokes, and a hundred side hustles. Skip if you hate long cutscenes. Play Yakuza: Like a Dragon first if you can, then read my Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii verdict for the spin-off.
