GRAND THEFT AUTO V: THE CITY THAT NEVER LOGGED OFF

9.0 of 10 bananas. Thirteen years on, Los Santos is still the most alive city in gaming. Three criminals, great heists, and a sprawling online world, held back by an aging story mode and an online economy built to sell you cash cards.
By the Alpha. Steam listing. Updated Oct 20 2026.
Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, update history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.
Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC (Rockstar North and Rockstar Games, first released September 17 2013; the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions arrived March 15 2022, and the PC Enhanced version on Steam in March 2025). The button on this page is the Steam store page for the PC Enhanced version. I checked Amazon on Oct 20: the US PS5 disc listing had no featured new offer, only other sellers and used copies, so there is no Amazon button yet.
Get Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced on SteamSit with me a moment. Most nights you can find me in Los Santos on TikTok, letting chat pick the crimes while I teach the troop to drive like a calm ape and not a panicked one. I have lost count of the hours. That is the first thing to know about this game: thirteen years after launch, people still choose to live here.
What It Wants To Be
GTA V is an open world crime story told through three men. Michael is a retired bank robber bored in a mansion, Franklin is a young hustler looking for a way up, and Trevor is chaos with a pilot license. You switch between them at will, and the story builds to a run of big heists you plan and pull off as a crew. Around the story sits GTA Online, a separate multiplayer world that Rockstar has kept expanding for years with businesses, races, and heists of its own.
What Works
Los Santos is still the star. The city, the hills, the desert, and the coast feel lived in, and the radio, the traffic, and the people make it feel like a place, not a map. The heists are the best missions Rockstar has built: you pick an approach and a crew, then watch the plan hold or crack. Switching between three characters keeps the pacing sharp. Critics put it among the highest rated games ever made, and Take-Two reports it has sold more than 200 million copies. GTA Online gives you years of content if you want it, and the newer console and PC versions look and load far better than the old ones.
What Breaks
Listen well. The story mode never got the expansions people hoped for, and it shows its age in mission design: lots of follow the car and fail if you stray. Trevor is meant to shock, and some of it lands as cheap. GTA Online is where Rockstar put its effort, and its economy is built to push Shark Card cash purchases, with a long grind if you refuse. Public lobbies can be full of griefers. And GTA 6 arrives on November 19 2026, so if you only want one Rockstar city this year, know the new one is close, on consoles first.
Who Should Play
Play it if you have somehow never been to Los Santos, if you want a huge sandbox to mess around in with friends, or if you want to join the chaos on stream with the troop. Skip it if you already finished it twice and online grinding does not appeal. Then save your bananas for GTA 6.
STRENGTHS
- Los Santos still feels alive
- Heists are Rockstar at its best
- Three-character switching
- Years of online content
HONEST COSTS
- Story missions show their age
- Online economy pushes paid cash
- Griefers in public lobbies
- No fair Amazon offer at my check
Store note: the troop still needs a fair Amazon referral for this one. The US PS5 disc had no featured new offer at my Oct 20 check, so Steam is the only button until a fair listing is real. This is not an affiliate link.
