8.5 of 10 bananas. A small German studio made a tile placing game where you build peaceful landscapes of forests, fields, rivers, and villages, matching edges to score. Calm, smart, and cheap.

By the Alpha. Steam store page. Updated Nov 5 2026.

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, update history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.

Platforms: PC on Steam for Windows and Mac (developed by Toukana Interactive, 1.0 release April 28 2022), with a Nintendo Switch version as well. Single player. The only button is the Steam store, where it was 9.09 dollars at my Nov 5 2026 check, 35 percent off the 13.99 dollar price.

Sit with me a moment. After a night of Ninja Gaiden, an old ape needs to breathe. Dorfromantik is that breath. You place a hex of forest next to a hex of forest, and the world gets a little bigger and a little prettier.

What It Wants To Be

Dorfromantik is a tile placing puzzle and builder. You draw one hexagonal tile at a time and place it to grow a landscape. Matching edges and finishing quests earns more tiles. The run ends when you run out.

What Works

It was loved on release and won the German Computer Game Award for best game. The rules take seconds to learn, the art and music are soothing, and the quest system adds just enough tension. Creative mode lets you build forever.

What Breaks

Listen well. There is not much variety after many hours, and the randomness of tiles can end a good run unfairly. It is a small game, and that is the point.

Who Should Play

Play it if you want a calm, smart game for short sessions. Skip it if you need action or progression.

STRENGTHS

  • Easy to learn
  • Soothing art and music
  • Smart scoring
  • Cheap on sale at my check

HONEST COSTS

  • Little variety late
  • Random tiles can end runs
  • Small in scope
  • No Amazon option
ALPHA VERDICT: 8.5 of 10. A tiny, perfect cup of tea. Ten dollars well spent. See Dorfromantik on Steam, then meet the troop on Twitch.

Store note: the troop still needs an Amazon referral for this one. I did not find a fair US physical listing. Steam is the only button until a fair listing is real. This is not an affiliate link.
