DEAD RISING DELUXE REMASTER: 72 HOURS, ONE MALL, A THOUSAND ZOMBIES

8.0 of 10 bananas. Capcom rebuilds its 2006 zombie mall sandbox with modern visuals, autosaves, and controls that finally let you move while you aim. Silly, generous, and still unlike anything else, but the clock and the psychopath fights will test you.

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, update history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Capcom, released September 19 2024). The Amazon button is the US PS5 disc, 20.95 dollars at my Oct 25 check, sold by a third-party seller and shipped by Amazon. The seller name changed between my two checks, so look at who sells it before you buy. Steam had it on sale at 24.99 dollars, down from 49.99.

What It Wants To Be
You are Frank West, a photojournalist dropped onto the roof of a shopping mall in Willamette, Colorado, during a zombie outbreak. You have 72 hours before the helicopter returns. Every shop is a weapon rack, from lawn mowers to guitars, and the clock never stops. You chase the story, rescue survivors, take photos for points, and fight unhinged survivors called psychopaths.
What Works
The remaster keeps the heart of the original and fixes what made it hard to love. There are autosaves, more save slots, a way to skip time, smarter survivors, full voice acting, and you can move while aiming. The mall packed with zombies is still a joy to wreck, and the level up loop rewards replays. Critics agreed: the Steam store page shows a Metacritic score of 79.
What Breaks
Listen well. The 72 hour clock is the whole design, and it means you will miss things on your first run, which some players hate. Psychopath fights spike hard. Rescuing survivors is better than in 2006, but escorting them still causes trouble. It is a remaster, not a remake, so the story and structure feel old.
Who Should Play
Play it if you love zombie chaos, sandbox silliness, and games you replay to do better. Skip it if a ticking clock stresses you out, or if you want serious horror.
STRENGTHS
- A mall full of weapons
- Modern saves and controls
- Smarter survivors
- Replay loop that rewards you
HONEST COSTS
- The clock forces missed content
