9.0 of 10 bananas. Boss rush run and gun with hand drawn soul, jazz in the ears, and difficulty that never lies.

By the Alpha. Switch disc listing. Updated Oct 15 2026.

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, patch history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.

Platforms: The Amazon button is Cuphead for Nintendo Switch, the physical US release that includes The Delicious Last Course expansion plus pack-in cards (Skybound / iam8bit, ASIN verified). At my check it was in stock from third-party sellers fulfilled by Amazon, around the low thirties. Cuphead is also on PC through Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation.

Sit with me a moment. Young gorillas see a cute cartoon and think it will be soft. Then the first boss pattern starts, and the canopy goes quiet. Cuphead looks like 1930s animation and plays like a silverback drill.

What It Wants To Be

Studio MDHR's boss rush run and gun sends Cuphead and Mugman through hand drawn worlds to collect soul contracts. Local co-op lets two players share the pain. The Delicious Last Course adds Ms. Chalice, new bosses, and a new island.

What Works

Boss design is the whole meal, and most patterns teach before they punish. The art and jazz soundtrack are not decoration. They are the identity. Parry timing and weapon charms give skilled players a real climb. Co-op is chaotic in the best way.

What Breaks

Listen well. This game is hard on purpose. Some players bounce off early bosses and never return. A few late patterns lean on memorization more than improvisation. Accessibility options help, but the core still asks for patience.

Who Should Play

Play if you love Contra-style challenge, beautiful animation, and local co-op. Skip if you want a casual evening with no retries. Practice one boss at a time.
