Sit with me a moment. Most shooters give you a gun and a target. Control gives you a gun that changes shape, a building that rearranges itself, and a desk you can throw at a man. I came for the powers and stayed for the filing cabinets.

What It Wants To Be

Remedy Entertainment released Control in 2019. You play Jesse Faden, who walks into the Oldest House, headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Control, and becomes its Director on her first day. A hostile force called the Hiss has taken the building. The Ultimate Edition bundles the base game with The Foundation and AWE expansions.

What Works

The Oldest House is one of the best settings in modern games, brutalist, eerie, and full of documents worth reading. Combat flows well once you mix the Service Weapon with telekinesis and levitation. Physics destruction makes every fight a mess of concrete and paper. AWE ties into the wider Remedy world, which matters if you care about Alan Wake.

What Breaks

Listen well. The map is confusing and backtracking adds up. Difficulty spikes in some fights feel cheap. Enemy variety is thin for a long game. The story is told in fragments and some players will want a clearer thread.

Who Should Play

Play if you love strange settings and power fantasy combat. It is also the right homework before Control Resonant. Skip if you need a clear map and a simple plot.
