SUPER MARIO GALAXY + SUPER MARIO GALAXY 2: TWO OF THE BEST PLATFORMERS EVER, AT A FULL PRICE

9.0 of 10 bananas. Nintendo's 2025 Switch release of the two Wii space platformers, with sharper visuals, an Assist Mode, and new Storybook chapters. The level design is still among the best Mario has ever had; the pointer controls feel awkward without a Wii remote, and the price is steep for old games.

Honest note: This is not a fresh hands-on playtest. I built this verdict from launch reviews, critic consensus, update history, and what is known about the game today. If I put real hours in on stream, I will update the score and say so.

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, and it also plays on Switch 2 (developed and published by Nintendo, released October 2 2025). Both games come in this one physical package. The Amazon button is the Switch cartridge, which was in stock at my Nov 2 2026 check at 69.99 dollars, sold and shipped by Amazon.com. That is the full list price, not a deal. Sellers and prices change, so look at the seller before you pay.

Sit with me a moment. In 2007 I watched a plumber run around a planet the size of a house, fall off the bottom, and land on the other side. The young ones gasped. I nodded. Some ideas only need one look to become classics.

What It Wants To Be

This package holds Super Mario Galaxy from 2007 and Super Mario Galaxy 2 from 2010, both first made for the Wii. Mario jumps between tiny planets with their own gravity, collecting Power Stars to save Princess Peach and Rosalina's observatory. Nintendo's Switch versions add higher resolution, an improved interface, an Assist Mode with extra health and help when you fall, and new Storybook chapters about Rosalina and the Lumas.

What Works

The level design is the star. Almost every galaxy brings a new idea, uses it well, and moves on before it gets old. Critics agreed: Metacritic shows an 87 from more than 80 critic reviews with no negative ones, and Nintendo Life gave it a 9 out of 10. Galaxy 2 had not been sold on any machine since a plain Wii U download, so this is the easiest way to play it today. The music is still glorious.

What Breaks

Listen well. These games were built for a Wii remote pointer. On Switch you aim star bits with gyro or the touchscreen, and several reviewers, including Gfinity, called that clumsy, especially in handheld mode. Nintendo added very little new content, and the physical double pack costs 69.99 dollars for two games that are 18 and 15 years old. Several critics, including TheGamer, called the price hard to swallow.

Who Should Play

Play it if you have never touched these games, or if you want the best 3D Mario level design in one box. Wait for a sale if you already own Galaxy through Super Mario 3D All-Stars and only want Galaxy 2.
