SILENT HILL 2: THE FOG STILL KNOWS YOUR NAME

8.5 of 10 bananas. A respectful remake with a longer, heavier walk.

Get SILENT HILL 2 on AmazonSit with me a moment. Some horror is about jump scares. Silent Hill 2 is about guilt. James Sunderland walks into the fog because of a letter from his dead wife, and the town answers him with monsters that feel personal. The remake keeps that sadness intact.
What It Wants To Be
Bloober Team's 2024 remake of the 2001 Konami classic, released October 2024 on PS5 and PC. Akira Yamaoka returned for the music and Masahiro Ito for the creature design. Over-the-shoulder camera, rebuilt combat, expanded spaces.
What Works
Atmosphere is thick. The fog, the sound design, and Yamaoka's score build dread better than most new horror. The story's big ideas survive the remake. Combat is more readable than the original, and some expanded areas add real tension. It proved Bloober could handle a sacred franchise with care.
What Breaks
Listen well. It is long, and some expanded buildings add more combat than meaning. Enemy variety is thin for that length. PC performance had stutter at launch. Purists will miss the strange stiffness and fixed angles of the original.
Who Should Play
Play if you want psychological horror with weight and you have patience for a slow, sad walk. Skip if you want action horror or quick sessions. For newer fear, read my Silent Hill f and Cronos verdicts.
